This week I've found myself very far behind in the laundry and housework. Home projects and time in the garden have taken priority.
Having so many little ones sometimes means waiting until nap time to even try to do housework.
I had a few moments of desperation this morning, but as the afternoon wore on, I began to think about what I had accomplished.
I made play-dough, read two stories to the babies, and marveled at a sleeping kitty in the doll stroller. You would think that with as many kids as I have I would understand what qualifies as a good day, but I am still trying to learn that one.
A successful day lies in being available to the little ones, not how many things I checked off my list. People are more important than things.

I cannot begin to tell you how badly i needed to read this. A friend that needed some encouragement (mutual thought) came by today, we kicked back, ate some thai food and watched our kids make an even bigger mess than what was there before she came. It was so refreshing, even if I am waiting till nap time to tackle stuff before my husband gets home. Life is good.
Natalie, somehow I knew there were other mamas in the same boat as me today! I think time with friends is so important; glad you were able to relax and enjoy the afternoon!
Yesterday morning was one of those mornings (ok, this entire week!) for me. When will I stop measuring myself by how much I got done on my to-do list? Why do I forget to look for what God is doing in my life? In my kids' life? I guess that's part of what comes with the territory of living on this side of Eden. While I'm here, I'm thankful for these reminders of truth.
Amen Jessi! I am the same way; I think all mothers struggle with trying to measure up. I'm so glad that I was able to encourage other gals through this post.
My thoughts are this...if my house is comparable in tornado-ish qualities as many of you with small ones, what will it be when Elsie actually arrives and is capable of contributing to the chaos? Ha, I'm 14 weeks away from the due date, and I just keep thinking about all that needs to be sorted and cleaned prior to bringing my third child into the world! I love that have such wonderful friends to encourage me with Truth throughout this journey...here's to 14 weeks of preparation for a life, not for a spotless home :)
